It has been recognized that the antibacterial sera produced by the immunization of the horse and the rabbit with Type I pneumococci, although possessing type specificity, exhibit marked differences in certain immunological properties. The distinctive characteristics of the two sera have interested numerous investigators, but as yet there is almost no evidence to indicate what constituents of the two sera are responsible for the differentiating qualifies.
